Chinedu is best known for his stand up appearances on Television, internationally and around the United States. He currently made his acting debut on the new season of the hit comedy series The Mindy Project (FOX).
Born and raised in south Los Angeles with direct Nigerian roots, Chinedu has made his way quickly through the comedy scene. He got his start in comedy after a friend in college dared/encouraged him to try stand up. Chinedu, always down for a 360 degree life change, told himself “Why not?” After a successful first show Chinedu became hooked; performing at every talent show, open mic and stand up night he could find at and around the University of California, Santa Barbara. After graduating with a degree in Sociology, Chinedu moved back to LA to put his degree to good use by pursuing entertainment. Chinedu began performing nightly anywhere he could, but had some extra time on his hands in the day so he completed a Masters program at LMU to get his mom off his back.
A fews years later, CHINEDU has now established himself as a smooth witty comedic presence performing regularly at some of the country’s most renowned comedy clubs. Including his local favorites: The Hollywood Laugh Factory, The Hollywood Improv, The Comedy and Magic Club, The Comedy Store, and many more. You might have seen his name on the same line up with other renown comedians such as: Mike Epps, Dom Irrera, Dane Cook, Deon Cole, Chris D’elia, Ian Edwards, Marlon Wayans and the list goes on. As well as independently touring universities nationwide annually through his “Study Break” College Comedy Tour reaching from USC and UCLA in Los Angeles to Ithaca College and Cornell University in New York.
Chinedu most recently competed in NBC’s Stand Up for Diversity competition – being named a top ten finalist out of more than 1000 comedians. In addition, he was featured on NUVO’s TV Stand Up and Deliver, was 1 of 7 featured comedians for the first Hollywood Black Film festival comedy series, and was named as a top finalist at the latest Ventura Harbor, Burbank, San Diego and the nationally recognized Laughing Skull Comedy Festival (2014). Chinedu comedic talents were also seen on TV in his own one hour comedy special on The Africa Channel as apart of Africa Laughs (2011), which still continually airs internationally on Time Warner Cable. Furthermore, his name can be seen on the credits as lead writer on comedy specials that were aired on SHOWTIME. Lastly, Chinedu is the creator of The Comedy Kickback, a once a month sell out stand up comedy show w/ a twist, that happens every second Friday in Los Angeles (be back soon).
Appearing on numerous stages, Chinedu provides the audience with a fresh point of view, a welcoming persona and hilarious flips in logic that you often don’t see coming. Having performed everywhere there is a mic: clubs, colleges, corporate events, weddings, etc. across the country, Chinedu has been labeled by audiences, comedians and bookers as “clever energy with an array of jokes that are original, universal and as someone who is ready for primetime.”
Chinedu’s overall goal is to “just become successful enough to the point where spell check will stop trying to convince me I spelled my name wrong.”
